Frolictown Creek Falls
A short falls but in a cozy setting, this one is worth a stop if you’re on the main trail. Be careful if you cross the creek on the Deep Gap trail. It crosses directly above the falls!
The quickest way to the falls starts at Panthertown’s West entrance. From the intersection of US Hwy. 64 and NC Hwy. 107 in Cashiers, NC, go east on 64 for 2 miles. Turn left onto Cedar Creek Road and go 2.3 miles. Turn right on Breedlove Road (there is a sign for the Panthertown Valley) and go about 3.6 miles to the end of the pavement. The trailhead is about 1/4 mile ahead on the gravel road.
Since the gravel road has been in very rough shape in the past, you can park here if you don’t have a 4wd or high-clearance vehicle. Hopefully this road will start getting some maintenance since Panthertown is becoming so popular.
Take the main Panthertown Valley trail. You can take a couple of routes to the falls, but the best is probably via the Wilderness Falls trail which splits off to the right just a few minutes down the path. This will take you past Wilderness Falls on the way. At the end, you hit the Deep Gap trail (which is an old road) – go nearly straight across (but just a little to the left) and down a scramble path to reach Frolictown Creek Falls.
If you skip Wilderness falls, turn right on the Deep Gap trail a little ways past the Salt Rock view. The trail crosses Frolictown Creek at the top of the falls – look to your left just before the crossing for the scramble path down to the bottom.
