Bird Falls
The only way I have found to view these falls is by boat. From Almond Boat
Park take your boat to the left up the Nantahala River. About a mile or so
up on the left you will see these spectacular falls.
Driving directions coming from the east you will need to be on US 74
West, when the four-lane ends you come to a Y or fork in the road you will
take 28 North towards Fontana and Robbinsville go .3 miles and make a right
onto Almond Boat Park Road. The dock will be .8 mile at the end of this
road. Note: you may rent a boat from this
location, but you must make prior reservations. For boat reservation
information call Almond Boat Bark at 828-488-6423 |

Nantahala Waterfalls
Directions to the falls and cascades in the Nantahala Area on the
Mountain Waters Scenic Byway:
Between
Bryson City and Andrews, (Nantahala Outdoor Center and Topton) take US 19/74
to its intersection with Wayah Road. Take Wayah Road toward Franklin for 2.8
and 2.9 miles to two pullouts on the left side of the road to view cascading
Camp Branch Falls if you look closely you will see where the Camp Branch
Falls run into the River The falls twist around the side of the mountain so
going up they are hard to locate especially when foliage is on. At the
second pull-out, look high behind you on the left hill to see the falls.
Continue toward Franklin for another .7 mile (3.6 miles total) to the first
of two pullouts on the right to view cascades on the Nanty. Go another .2
mile (3.8 miles total) for the second pullout on the right and another
cascade on the Nanty. Go another .4 mile (4.2 miles total) to the
intersection of Old River Road to a pullout on the right to view a unnamed,
low-volume cascade on the left side of the road. Turn right onto Old River
Road for a very short distance cross the bridge over Whiteoak Creek for a
distant view of Whiteoak Falls, the fifth cascade. There is a pullout
on the right across the bridge. Walk back across the bridge and there is a
trail on the left, but it is very difficult to traverse so beware. If you
wish get back on Wayah Road, continue another .1 mile to a pullout on the
right to view Whiteoak Falls from the top. There are also 2 very nice
cascades not too far up the Old River Road on your right. These directions

Camp Branch Falls
The beautiful 200 foot high Camp Branch Waterfalls shown
above are so unique because they curve around the side of a mountain. It is
very difficult to get a good picture especially with the foliage on, but
they are well worth going to see. You can only view them from the side of
the road unless you wade or swim the river.
